Dr. Tak-Sing Wong is currently an Assistant Professor of Mechanical
Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park. Dr.
Wong was the Croucher
Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wyss Institute for Biologically
Inspired Engineering at Harvard University from 2010 - 2012. He received his
Ph.D. degree (2009) in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at
UCLA, and his B.Eng. Degree (2003) in Mechanical Engineering from The Chinese
University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Wong's
research focuses on designing multi-functional biologically inspired surfaces
with applications in materials, energy, and health. His research has collectively led to >25 peer-reviewed publications, including papers in Nature, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, and the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, USA (PNAS).
His research on bio-inspired surfaces have received a number of national and international awards and recognitions, including 35 Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review (2014), National Academy of Engineering's Frontiers of Engineering (2014), a National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2014), a R&D 100 Award (2012), which is widely regarded as the "Oscars of Innovation". Dr. Wong's research have been featured by two documentary produced by BBC (2012) and PBS (2013), as well as >100 international news outlets over 20 countries, including The Times, Reuters, Popular Science, and Nature.
Currently
Dr. Wong’s current research focuses on biologically inspired engineering concepts to create materials with extreme wetting, adhesion, and optical properties, with applications in materials science, biomedicine, and energy. Through his research and education, Dr. Wong strives to improve life through technology innovation.
